Grid Settings

What Gridlines do and how to use them.

What are Gridlines for?

Gridlines work like a virtual layer of graph paper that sits atop your drawing. Setting up gridlines makes it so your balloons will automatically populate in Form 3 with a reference location. This makes it much easier to find an individual balloon on a cluttered drawing.

Setting Up Gridlines

To turn on gridlines, click the Grid Lines button in the toolbar. It will turn green when active.

Once it is active, you will see a set of two vertical lines and two horizontal lines overlaid on your drawing.

To manipulate these lines, simply click and drag on a line and release them when they are over the desired location. To correctly set up your gridlines, you want to place your lines on the first and last sector boundaries on each axis.

In this example, your first set of gridlines will rest between 12 and 11 on the x-axis, and H and G on the y-axis. Your second set of gridlines will rest between 2 and 1 on the x-axis, and B and A on the y-axis.

After setting your gridlines to the right locations, you can set your gridline settings. In the space above your drawing you will see your gridline settings. For your horizontal sectors, your grid runs from 12 to 1, so you have 12 horizontal sectors. For your vertical sectors, your grid runs from H to A, so you have 8 vertical sectors.

Make sure to set your styles correctly. In this example, horizontally, you are descending numerically from any number to 1, and vertically, you are descending alphabetically from any letter to A. However, your drawing and thus the numerical and alphabetical order may differ from this.

Now you can hit save and you are all set!

πŸ’‘ If you happen to have multiple pages with different grids, you can also untick the Apply to all pages box and set the configuration for a single page.

πŸ’‘ If you ever want to turn off the grid, just click the Gridlines button again β€” it is a simple visual toggle, and toggling it off will not stop GroundControl from using it to automatically populate your reference locations.
