Your first look at GroundControl

Updated over 3 weeks ago

GroundControl is designed to make AS9102 FAI Reports simple. We help you create error-free reports in minutes, not days. Everything is built securely in the cloud and accessible by visiting:

This guide will walk you step-by-step through completing a FAIR. Note that this is not fully comprehensive, as every single report is unique and some may contain special requirements of many varieties.

Login sessions last for a set duration, and will logout sooner on extended idle behaviour for your security benefit. If you are already logged in, you can skip this step as you will be able to navigate within the web application freely. If you are not logged in, any page you try to go to will redirect you to the /login page.

Click Sign In With AWS Cognito and enter your credentials given to you during onboarding**.** If you need to reset your password, you can do so by clicking Forgot your password? beneath the Password input field.

💡 Note: In adherence with best security practices, we require Two Factor Authentication (2FA).

Dashboard

Once you have successfully logged in, you will be redirected to the main dashboard. Here you will see a table of your company’s FAIRs, some information about each one, and the ability to Go-To, Duplicate, or Delete. Click on the arrow to go into a FAIR, or click “Create new FAIR” to start a new report.

To create a new FAIR, you must select an existing customer or create a new customer.

💡 Don’t worry if you make a mistake! You can edit this later on.

FAIR Navigation Panel

Use the navigation panel to switch between the three forms, the review / export pane, and the FAIR settings. You will see blue, green, or red next to each Form, indicating the current status.

If red (meaning missing data), it will let you know how many fields are missing. In order to export your data into the completed report, all three Forms must show Complete.

💡 You can use keyboard shortcuts to quickly switch between forms! Press [Alt] + [form #] to switch quickly. Alt+1 for Form 1, Alt+2 for Form 2, Alt+3 for Form 3, and Alt+4 for Review & Complete.

Form 1 & 2

You can now begin filling in the report forms. Use the navigation panel at the top left of the screen to navigate between each Form, and the Review Panel. See the Navigation Panel section for more information on that.

To fill out Form 1 and 2, simply type into any field. Information is saved as soon as your focus leaves a given field. This can be done by using tab to automatically go to the next field, or using your mouse to click anywhere on the screen. A notification will pop up indicating if the data was saved successfully.

Form 3

Once you navigate to form 3 using the navigation panel, you must upload a PDF of the drawing that you will be bubbling. Note that only .pdf files up to 100MB accepted. Once you upload your PDF, you will see your characteristics table and your PDF side by side.

You can hover over any icon in the toolbar (above the PDF) to see it's hotkey. These capture the ballooning modes. You have additional PDF options directly above your drawing.

Creating a new characteristic [bubble]

Make sure Annotation Mode is active in the ballooning modes. Simply click anywhere on the PDF, drag your cursor over the required area, and then let go of the click. You will see a dashed line annotation, and a corresponding “bubble” to the left of it. Text will then be parsed and placed into the Requirements field of the newly created characteristic. You can toggle between the text and an image of the characteristic with the Use Image toggle.

💡 If the AI engine determines the characteristic is a measurement or GD&T callout, optional tolerance fields will automatically be shown.

By clicking on any given row in the characteristics table, you will be taken to a larger view to enter data for that specific characteristic.

Similar to Form 1 & 2, simply type any value and use tab or your mouse to click away, which will automatically save that data.

If the requirement is a measurement or GD&T callout, the Tolerance checkbox should be checked which will allow you to enter your value and compare it to a given set of tolerances.

Review & Complete

Use this tab to quickly see what data is missing from your report! Any missing fields will be highlighted here, and clicking on a given table will take you directly back to that section to fill in any missing data.

Export Report

In order to export your report, all three forms must be completely filled out.

🚨 Note the red Override button! This will allow you to override the controls and enable you to export a non-completed report, if necessary. However we strongly recommend against this in most cases.

Once completed, you can export to an Excel output, a PDF (which will include all auxiliary documents (bubble drawing, material certs, functional tests, etc) collated, or a NetInspect Excel Import Template. This last option will allow you to complete a FAIR with GroundControl, and import it into NetInspect to prevent duplicate data entry and wasted time.

Site Wide Settings

Use the tabs and plus button at the top to create new tolerances. You can give each a unique name, and then create any precision + margin sets below. Use the plus button at the bottom to create a new precision + margin set, and the Save button to save anything you have created.

The trash can icon can be used to delete a given precision + margin set from a tolerance.

👥 Do you see the same tolerances for a given customer? Add it as a global tolerance with their name, so you can easily use this tolerance on reports for their parts.
