Upgrades to Form 3

As a part of continuing product development, the user interface for Form 3 has been updated to enhance productivity. A brand new, feature-rich PDF Drawing viewer has been added, and the table of characteristics moved to the bottom of the page. The PDF toolbar has been updated with text instead of icons to clearly show exactly what each toolbar option will do. There are four sections to note in this new view.

Re-upload Drawing

Clicking this button allows the user to upload a new drawing for Form 3, in case one was uploaded by accident. If more pages or an additional PDF need to be uploaded, please see Adding Additional PDFs. Note that Forms 1 and 2 will be unaffected by any drawing re-uploads. We will attempt to keep the characteristics already created. However, if the new PDF is not compatible with the old characteristic annotations for any reason, they will be deleted.

Snap to Bubble

Clicking this button will toggle snap to bubble mode. This mode will focus and zoom the PDF on whichever characteristic is chosen in the Characteristic Card pane. To quickly move between characteristics, use the left and rightarrow keys. To jump to a farther characteristic, simply click on its row in the Characteristics Table.

šŸ’” Use the hotkey shift+b to quickly toggle this mode.

Grid Lines

Clicking this button will toggle grid lines mode. For more information on setting up and adjusting the grid lines for characteristic reference locations, please see Grid Lines.

šŸ’” Be sure to turn this mode off when done editing the grid! Use the hotkey shift+g to quickly toggle this mode.

Sub-Balloon Mode

Clicking this button will toggle sub-balloon mode. When this mode is on, each characteristic created will have a characteristic number of X.Y, where X is the whole number based on whatever characteristic is active in the Characteristic Card Pane, and Y is the next incrementing number.

For example, if Characteristic Number 2 is active in the CCP, the next characteristic created will have number 2.1. If Characteristic Number 2 is active, but there are already characteristics created for 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3, the next characteristic created will have number 2.4.

šŸ’” Be sure to turn this mode off when done sub-ballooning! Use the hotkey shift+s to quickly toggle this mode.

Insert in Place Mode

Clicking this button will toggle insert in place mode. When this mode is on, each characteristic created will have a characteristic number of X, where X is the whole number based on whatever characteristic is active in the Characteristic Card Pane.

For example, if Characteristic Number 2 is active in the CCP, the next characteristic created will have number 2. This will adjust any existing characteristics to ensure there are no duplicates.

Whiteout Annotations

Clicking this button will toggle whiteout annotation mode. When this mode is on, the annotated area inside the dashed boxes will be filled with white. This helps when reviewing a document to ensure all relevant areas have been added as characteristics. Note this is not permanent and will not affect the exported document.

šŸ’” Use the hotkey shift+w to quickly toggle this mode.

Bubble Settings

Clicking this button will toggle bubble settings. This pane allows the user to update the color and size of a subset of, or all bubbles. Update Selected will affect any bubbles which have been selected on the PDF viewer. To select one bubble, simply click on it. To select multiple, use the lasso tool in the PDF toolbar. Update All will update all bubbles in the PDF. Note that the settings chosen will save for new bubbles, until the page is refreshed, after which new bubbles will default to Red color, 10 size.

PDF Viewer + Toolbar

The newly updated PDF viewer comes with built-in features to enable quick viewing and editing of the drawing PDF. From left to right:

Characteristic Table

The Characteristic table provides an overview of all created characteristics for a given FAIR. The Status column will show a green check if all required information has been entered, or a red exclamation point otherwise.

To delete a single characteristic, click the red trash can icon at the far right of each row. This will also remove the associated bubble and annotation from the PDF.
