How to extract part information and default tolerances from your drawing's title block with GroundControl.
The Title Block tool reads the title block of your drawing and pulls its key information — drawing number, part number, part name, part revision, and drawing revision — straight into your Form 1 part info. It can also extract the default tolerances from the drawing's title block and apply them to your default tolerances.
💡 Zoom in on the title block before you select it. A tighter, clearer selection gives GroundControl the best chance of reading every field accurately.
Opening the tool
In Form 3, click Title Block in the toolbar. The Title Block panel opens on the left side and you are able to drag and select over the title region immediately.
Selecting the title block region
Region selection becomes active when you click on the title block button in the panel — drag a tight box around the title block text on the drawing (press Esc to cancel). Include the main title block in your selection.
Reviewing and applying the extracted part info
GroundControl reads your selection and shows the results under each field.
Each field — Part Number, Part Name, Part Revision Level, Drawing Number, and Drawing Revision Level — appears with its extracted value and an Apply checkbox.
Review the values and edit any that need correcting, then tick Apply only for the fields you want to write to Form 1. You can apply any combination of part and drawing fields (for example, applying the Drawing Number separately from the Part Number). Extracted values only replace a field when you apply them.
When you're satisfied, click Apply to Form 1, or click Dismiss to discard the extraction.
💡 You can also edit Form 1 part info directly in the Current entered data section of the panel and click Save.
Reviewing and applying default tolerances
If your title block notes contain default tolerances, they appear as you scroll down in the Title Block panel. Each row shows the precision, plus and minus values, and unit, with its own Apply checkbox so you can edit or exclude any row.
Save defaults — store these as the default tolerances. If no characteristics exist yet, they'll be applied automatically to any characteristics you create later.
Save + Apply Existing — save the defaults and apply them to your existing characteristics at the same time.
Use Dismiss to discard the extracted tolerances without saving.
