Our login enforces usage of a time limited token generated from an application supporting this functionality.
There are many choices, and you’re free to use any you wish. In this guide, we’ll show some options for each platform.
Windows
If you want to generate codes on Windows, without the use of an additional mobile device, there are a few choices but we recommend the open source project 2fast
.
You can install the application from the windows store:
Click download, and a .exe
will be downloaded to your Downloads folder.
Double-click it, and follow the installation instructions. Once complete, start the application.
Skip or Complete the tutorial as you see fit
Create new data file (first start)
Choose local path
Select anywhere on your local disk, do not use a network drive.
For filename enter ‘2fast’
Enter a password that you will remember, you cannot reset this and if you lose it you will need to contact gndctl support to unlock your account.
With the app setup and ready to use, we can setup the Ground Control account.
Get the initial password from your email
Login with your email and initial password
Set a your password
Click to reveal the secret code, and copy it (Highlight and ctrl + c)
in
2fast
click+ Add Account
Manual Input
Label as you see fit
Paste the ‘secret key’ into the ‘Secret key’ field
Click ‘Create account’
Copy the code, and enter it in the sign-in screen
This will sign you in, and from now on you can use this code during your sign-in process
💡Note: If the steps above took too long, the 2fa setup will have expired. In this case, instead of signing you in, you’ll be asked to setup 2FA again. This regenerates the secret key, so you’ll have to remove the other account in 2fast
and start over.
Mobile
If you want to generate codes on your mobile, there are many authentication apps available. A few that we recommend are Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, and Duo.
Download an application of your choice. Once completed, start the application.
Setup the application if needed
Click the Add (+) button
Choose scan QR code
Scan the QR code shown on the login screen after setting your password
If requested, setup a password for your authenticator app. This is unrelated to GroundControl
Click Show Passcode
Copy the 6 digit code (no spaces) into the step 3 in the login page above and click Sign In.
💡Note: If the steps above took too long, the 2fa setup will have expired. In this case, instead of signing you in, you’ll be asked to setup 2FA again. This regenerates the secret key, so you’ll have to remove the other account in 2fast
and start over.
